Reebook / Wallpaper* | 2011

Reebok and Wallpaper magazine, invited me to create a one-off artwork inspired by the sole of their ZigTech shoes. The peculiar shape takes form from the movement of waves and from their capacity to transmit energy and to represent movement, but of course that’s a very modern interpretation, waves belong to the 20th century. For centuries before, human existence has come along with the noblest of all animals: the horse. Just think that horsepower (HP) is still the name of several units of measurement of power, and it was originally defined to compare the output of steam engines with the power of draft horses. In addition to that I’m unavoidably italian, and equestrian statues have been so much part of my classical references. But I just imagined the horse filtered through Plato’s cave, trying to get the essence with a black shadow cast in space. Last but not least, I like waves in all their invisible manifestations like energy, sound, light, and even more when you may stare at their strength, as it happen with the sea waves. And you must know that the italian translation for “big sea waves” is “cavalloni”, literally: big horses…
