TRIENNALE DESIGN MUSEUM
Milano

2012

With its fifth edition Grafica, Triennale Design Museum goes on with its plan to promote and give prominence to Italian creativity, extending its research into an area that has always been regarded as minor, as secondary, and give it back its well-deserved independence.

After the first surveys conducted by the Museum on contemporary graphic design (The New Italian Design, Spaghetti grafica and Graphic Design Worlds), the decision to focus one event on Italian graphic design, visual communication and their history, is an important step to enrich and finish off this journey into Italian design that has been started by Triennale Design Museum.

Grafica is an opportunity to showcase the events, people, phenomena that have gone hand in hand and have supported the cultural, social, economic and political developments of our country, which are still poorly known in their richness outside the specialist communities.
A chance to contribute, by connecting the past with the present, to rise awareness of old and new cultural products and tools, which are by now largely part of our everyday lives.

Inspired by the historical background, the cultural roots and the highlights of Italian graphic design, the exhibition will be divided by types of exhibits, as a sort of taxonomy ranging from writing to space and time-related projects.

After answering the question “What is Italian Design?” with The Seven Obsessions of Italian Design, Series Off Series, The things we are and Dream Factories, Triennale Design Museum, the first museum of Italian design, stands once again as a dynamic museum which is ever new and offers its visitors unusual, different events.
An emotional, intriguing museum. A lively, ever-changing organism, which, year after year, with its innovative formula knows how to question itself without giving ready-made answers.
